Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana, but they are not alone, with the likes of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain also keen on the France international.
Manchester United news, exclusives and analysis
The 24-year-old has been at Monaco since signing from Strasbourg in January 2020 and has been a regular in the starting XI ever since.
His performances in Ligue 1, the Champions League and Europa League have earned him 13 caps for France under Didier Deschamps, making six appearances at the Qatar World Cup as the French reached the final.
His form for club and country has attracted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with a big move in 2024 looking increasingly likely.
RMC Sport report that Juventus have been scouting Fofana regularly over recent months, while Manchester United and PSG also have the midfielder on their radars.
Monaco are not in the strongest position with one of their star men as his contract expires in 2025, so they may well look to cash in on him in the summer rather than risk losing him for free the year after.
Fofana spent some of his youth at famed acadamy Clairefontaine, but left at 15 years old and joined Strasbourg where he made his professional debut.
‘Strasbourg prepared me more mentally because their training centre, compared to Clairefontaine and Monaco, in terms of quality, is a level below,’ he said. ‘It pushed me to go higher and further, and I improved more mentally than technically or tactically.’
